Tech Tips from Racers for Racers
|Polini Brake Maintenance|
|It's very normal for standard Polini brakes to squeak. The discs are very soft, the best way to keep them squeak free is by resurfacing them after every race.|
The first thing you'll need to do is clean all the brake dust off the discs. Do this with brake cleaner.
I have found 80-100 grit sandpaper works best. You need to sand down the discs perpendicular the rotation as pictured below.
Keep going around and around until the mirror finish is gone and you can't see your self anymore. Make sure to do the flip side of the disc.
Now all you have to do is wipe them off with a cloth, then remount them. I also like to clean off the wheels and lube the wheel bearings. Now you're all set to ride with squeakless brakes. Just remember to do this periodically and you should never have to worry about squeaking brakes. By the way...I didn't come up with this...bigthanks to The Worm for teaching me this awhile back.
Now that you have your discs resurfaced and ready, learn how to set them up correctly. Visit the tech article:
