Tech Tips from Racers for Racers
|Clutch Drum Replacement|
|Big Thanks to Trevor Sellars for this tip.|
Buy yourself a crank case splitter tool. It's actually a clutch basket with a thick circular plate fitted where the sprocket normally goes. In this disc there's a big bolt.
Remove sprocket and cir-clip if fitted, piggyback the crankcase splitter onto the clutch housing and secure to each other with 2 long bolts.
Wind in the large bolt fitted to the crank case splitter tool and hey presto out pops the clutch drum, without banging it out with a hammer and socket set.
To refit is an easy reversal of the above but obviously the crank case splitter and clutch housing go face on. Sometimes the large bolt when fully tightened is not long enough, pack out the space with an old socket bit.
